DIVIDING BUSINESSES INTO PROCESSES - FOUNDATIONS FOR MODELLING ESSENTIALS By

چکیده

One important part of information systems development work is business modelling. Traditionally businesses have been regarded as systems consisting of sub-systems. During the 90’s a number of process-oriented approaches for business modelling have gained a lot of interest. One problem about dividing businesses into processes is that there resolves controversy around the number of processes appropriate to a given organisation. The difficulty derives from the fact that processes are almost infinitely divisible. It is therefore a need to find basis of division when adopting a process-oriented view on the organisation. This paper reports on ongoing research concerning understanding businesses by using the notion of business processes. Results reported on are a further developed notion of business processes, a reference model for process determination, criteria for process determination and a theory of imperceivable business systems. These results are generated through a dialectic approach where both transformational and communicational aspects of business processes are taken into consideration as well as the notion of systems for perceiving businesses. By using this theory of imperceivable business systems for business modelling essential characteristics of businesses can be focused on different levels of abstraction.

Generic Layered Patterns for Business Modelling

When developing information systems business modelling is needed in order to highlight the essentials of businesses. Patterns of inter-related speech acts are the basis for identifying essentials in Language/Action-oriented approaches for business modelling. Weigand et al. has made an attempt to conceptualise the notion of patterns in a layered architecture founded in such approaches. In this p...

Challenging Dyadic Interaction in the Context of Multi-Organizational Business Processes

Value creation of today is often a co-production in multi-organizational settings. This requires knowledge about how to conceive multi-organizational actor roles as foundations for co-ordinating and efficiently co-produce customer value. Some contemporary business process modelling approaches builds upon modelling interaction between two business parties (i.e. dyadic interaction), but do not ac...

Monthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)

Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...

Dividing Multi-Organizational Businesses into Processes: Capturing Value Creation in Assignment Structures

Business transactions of today often rely on the involvement of several organizations in its preparation and realization. This means that value creation is distributed among several actors and needs to be coordinated. The division of multi-organizational businesses into business processes need to reflect the co-production of value arranged in distributed value production structures. There relie...

Rainfall-runoff modelling using artificial neural networks (ANNs): modelling and understanding

In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools in order to model complex hydrological processes such as the rainfall-runoff process. In many studies, ANNs have demonstrated superior results compared to alternative methods. ANNs are able to map underlying relationship between input and output data without prior understanding of the process under in...
